Automatic Installation (Softaculous)

Softaculous is an auto installer for cPanel and DirectAdmin. It allows users to install software in just one step. So, if you manage Control Panel on your hosting account, check if there is a Softaculous button there. If your hosting provider has Softaculous installed, you can easily install Oxwall Software in one step (no need for a manual installation). Just click on the 'Install' button.

1. Click on the 'Softaculous' button.

The system will direct you to the Softaculous Control Panel. The categories of software in the Softaculous collection will appear on the left.

2. Find and click on the Social Networking section.

3. You will be directed to that category. Find and click on the Oxwall title.

4. Click on the 'Install' button at the top of the page.

5. Fill in the form and click on the 'Install' button at the bottom of the page.

The installation process has been completed.

Oxwall can store all static content such as photos/images/thumbs on cloud storage systems.
It's cheaper and allows to load site's pages really faster.

Oxwall Software Cron Configuration Guide

To have your site working properly you have to create a cron job to run ow_cron/run.php every minute.
Cron command could be added via Cpanel/Cron Jobs.

Depending on hosting settings, cron command can be run via HTTP request or by local execution.

Run cron via HTTP request (Recommended from version 1.3.2 as an easiest way )

Find “Cron Jobs” icon in your cPanel. If you are not sure where to go check * Cron jobs guide on CPanel.

Set needed time in Add New Cron Job section. Use one of the following commands for Command field:

wget -q -O /dev/null http://www.yoursite.com/ow_cron/run.php

lynx http://www.yoursite.com/ow_cron/run.php

or simply

curl http://www.yoursite.com/ow_cron/run.php

Note: replace http://www.yoursite.com/ with your actual domain name.

Note: this method is affordable for common operations made on site regularly (updating user's activity, sending emails and etc).
In case when you have heavy tasks, like import profiles or data backup, then it is strongly recommended to run cron locally

Run cron locally

Some hosting companies do not permit local loopback, so using wget, lynx or curl will not work. Or when you have heavy tasks, like import profiles or data backup, then running Cron task will fail due to server limitations.

If this is one of the cases follow steps given bellow to create command to setup cron job via Cpanel/Cron Jobs to run locally. Instructions are given based on assumption that you have ssh access and any ssh client.

- Login to your server via SSH

- Run cd [path-to-your-Oxwall-homedir]/ow_cron command to enter the Cron folder

- Run pwd command

- You will see the path to the Cron folder (e. g. /home/yoursite/public_html/ow_cron)

- Run which php command

- You will see the path to PHP (e. g. /usr/local/bin/php)

Put two paths you got into one: path to PHP/path to Cron folder: For example:

/usr/local/bin/php /home/site/public_html/ow_cron/run.php

Use this command in Add New Cron Job section in cPanel.

Note: contact your hosting company if you have troubles with connecting via SSH.

Local Installation (AMPPS software stack)

AMPPS is an easy-to-install software stack of Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Python and Softaculous auto-installer that can be used on Desktops and office servers.

1. First of all you should install this software to you local machine. Please follow the following instructions: http://www.ampps.com/wiki/Install

2. Launch AMPPS program

3. Click on the 'Home' icon.

4. The system will open the Softaculous page in your default browser. Find and click on the Social Networking section.

5. You will be directed to that category. Find and click on the Oxwall title.

6. Click on the 'Install' button at the top of the page.

7. Fill in the form and click on the 'Install' button at the bottom of the page.

The installation process has been completed.

Manual Installation

Manual Installation

Before installation, please make sure that your server completely meets our server requirements.

1. Go to Oxwall official site.

2. Download Oxwall software here.

3. Upload it to your hosting account root folder (for ex.: /public_html/, /httpdocs/,etc.) via FTP

4.1. Go to Cpanel > File Manager and Extract the archive

4.2. If you don't have Cpanel installed for your hosting server, login to your server account via SSH. Go to the folder containing the package archive using a cd command.

Use the following command to unpack the archive: unzip package-name.zip

5. Go to Cpanel and create a new MySQL database. Create a database user. Add the user to the database. Give all privileges to the user.

6. Type www.yoursite.com/install in your browser.

Enter your site information.

Enter your Database access details.

Copy and paste the code replacing the existing one with ow_includes/config.php file.

Note: Don't forget to set up a cron job.

Click the 'Continue' button.

Select which plugins should be installed on your site. And click the 'Finish' button.

The installation process has been successfully completed.

7. Don't forget to set up a Cronjob. Follow this manual.

Via Admin Panel

There are two ways of adding plugins to your website:

Via Admin Panel

1. Go to http://www.oxwall.org/store, navigate to the plugin's page and download the archive containing plugin files.
2. Go to your Admin Panel > Plugins > Add New section.
3. Click the Choose File/Browse button, select downloaded plugin archive and click Upload.

4. You will be redirected to the page where you are prompted to fill the FTP details to your server. Important: those should be FTP details that you used when installed your website.

5. Go to your Admin Panel > Plugins > Available Plugins section. The plugin you uploaded should appear in the list.

6. Click 'Install' to install the plugin you need.

Manual upload

1. Go to http://www.oxwall.org/store, navigate to the plugin's page and download the archive containing plugin files.
2. Unpack the archive and upload extracted files to ow_plugins folder on your server.
3. Go to your Admin Panel > Plugins > Available Plugins section. The plugin you uploaded should appear in the list.
4. Click 'Install' to install the plugin you need.

Core Update

Note: Before performing update, please back up your files and database first.

Auto-update

Auto-update is all about clicking a button in admin area and entering your FTP details. We hope to make this feature run smooth on all possible server setups.

Manual update

If autoupdate can't be applied you can try manual core update.

Download Oxwall Update Pack at Oxwall.org/download;
Unpack it to the root folder of your software install;
Finalize update by calling yoursite.com/ow_updates

Note: All custom code modifications made before the update will be lost. We highly recommend changing the code by creating new plugins. If, indeed, you have changed the code, copy all changes before the update and apply them again once the script is updated.

Plugin update

Plugin update works pretty much as core update with possible auto- and manual updates. You should try auto-updates unless manual update recommended. Always read release notes from developers for special instructions before trying to update plugins.

Manual Update

Download the latest plugin's version from Oxwall Store;
Unpack plugin's archive;
Upload unpacked plugin's folder into ow_plugins/ directory (overwrite existing old plugin);
Login to Admin Panel and click “Update PLugin DB” button;

Theme update

Currently, theme can be updated manually only. To update theme, follow these steps:

Besure that constant DEV_MODE is disabled in ow_includes/config.php file;
Download your current theme from our store;
Upload this theme to your site to ow_themes folder (overwrite existing theme);
After uploading was complete, enable DEV_MODE in ow_includes/config.php file;
Press F5 on any page of your site and disable DEV_MODE
