Overview

User purchases paid membership/credit package » makes the payment » site admin receives the payment but membership/credit package is not added to user's account automatically. What to do?

Open Admin Panel » Dashboard » Finance page. Direct URL: www.sitename.com/admin/finance.

Presense of payment information on this page indicates that your site and your payment gateway are able to send/receive trasnaction data succesfully.

Absense of payment information, in turn, means that communication between your website and your gateway is either broken or has not been established at all. As a result user doesn't get purchased service automaitcally.

Checking your configurations

Make sure that you have configured your gateway account in accordance with our user guides:

PayPal Billing

Important!:IPN must be set within your PayPal account. Click the link from above for more information about IPN.

Important!:merchant email (not ID) should be used in Admin Panel » Installed Plugins »PayPal Billing » Settings.

CCBill Billing

Using correct Site URL

Within both CCBill and PayPal Billing plugin configuration guides you are asked to use your site URL.

PayPal example: The IPN URL should be: http://sitename.com/billing-paypal/order/notify

CCBill example: Click the Advanced link in the menu on the left and enter your website URL. For example: http://www.my-sitename.com/billing_ccbill/order/postback/

Using correct site URL is very important. Your site URL might or might not contain “www” part. If you are not sure what your site URL is make sure to check this within the source code:

Open ow_includes/config.php file via FTP or your Control Panel
Find following line: define('OW_URL_HOME', 'http://your_URL_will_be_here/');

This is your site URL. When configuring your payment gateway account make sure to use the exact same URL as you see in your config.php.

Checking Database

SkaDateX stores available payment related data in ow_base_log database table. This includes both successfull transactions and ones that failed due incorrect configruations of plugin/gateway account.

Open ow_base_log table
Find the entry related to the payment you are interested in.
Check what you have under “message” column for found entry.

If payment is processed successfully you will see payment data there:

In all other cases you will see the error message. Most of the times messages are self explanatory:

If you are nore sure what particular message means, you can always get assistance from SkaDate support team.

Don't hesitate to contact SkaDate Support team by creating support ticket from your client Area ( if support service is active) or by submitting your problem to our public forum if you face any issues while reading this manual or will stuble upong the error message you can't understand.

Keep in mind that the more informaiton you provide to us the faster your issue will be resolved. Here is a quick check list you can send to support operator:

I have checked “Finance” area in my Admin Panel and I can't see my payment there.
I have checked settings of my gateway plugin and can confirm that information entered there is correct.
I did check ow_base_log database table and found my payment there, but I don't understand what this particular error message means.

If you are using PayPal Billing Plugin:

I am using “PayPal Billing” plugin and I have made sure that I used my merchant email ( not ID) within plugin's settings.
I did set IPN within my PayPal account. IPN URL I used is: __

If you are using CCBill Billing Plugin you might be asked to send screen shots of your gateway account.

Troubleshooting Captcha

Standard Oxwall Captcha is the set of numbers/letters displayed at the end of the join form to determine whether or not the user is human. It is also used when user sends several private message within a short period of time (“Mailbox” plugin).

GD Library

If you see broken image instead of Captcha, first of all make sure that you have GD library with FreeType support enabled on your server as those are required to display Captcha.

Open /ow_includes/config.php file on your server via FTP on Control Panel.

Find following line within config.php file:

 define('OW_URL_HOME', 'http://sitename.com/');

Add

phpinfo();

Overall you should have

After saving changes open your website's homepage. Don't panic. Within the long list of tables with data find “GD” section:

GD Support should be enabled.
FreeType Support should be enabled.

If they are disabled, contact your hosting company and ask them to enable both for you

Note: Don't forget to remove php>phpinfo(); code from config.php

Third party script

If GD Library with FreeType support is enabled on your server, but you still don't see Captcha:

Open http://yoursitename.com/base/captcha/ in any browser. This page will display all Captcha related errors. If you are not sure what errors mean, contact Oxwall support team for assistance.
Deactivate all of your plugins one by one. Refresh join page after each deactivation.
Remove all Custom HTML widgets ( especially if they contain JavaScript code)one by one as well. Check your join page after removing each widget.
Remove any custom script ( especially JavaScript) added to Oxwall's .html and .php files ( Example: code to make snow fall on your site, “Share This” code).
Make sure that TTfonts are configured on your server ( contact your host).
Search your server's error logs for anything related to Captcha.

Checking Oxwall's core files

Find original package (.zip) containing Oxwall software of the same version that is being used on your site. If your site uses 1.5.3- find original 1.5.3 package, if your site uses 1.4.2 - find original 1.4.2 package.

Compare following files from original Oxwall package with the ones currently used on your site:

ow_system_plugins/base/controllers/join.php
ow_libraries/secureimage/secureimage.php
ow_system_plugins/base/views/controllers/join.html

If they are not identical, back up your own files and try replacing them by original ones.

Q: Data Import troubleshooting

A: First of all make sure you are importing your data to the latest version of Oxwall. Below is a list of issues you might face during the Data Import process:

1. File Upload issue

If import file upload failed, make sure that upload_max_filesize and post_maxsize directives on your server are greater than the size of your data file.

NOTE! You might want to contact your hosting provider and ask them to do that for you if you are not familiar with php.ini file structure.

2. Import Failed

Status "Wait Import"

Plugins status is set to ‘Wait Import’ after Import process has started.

Make sure your Cron command looks like the following:

/usr/local/bin/php -f /your full path to cron folder/run.php

Cron installation

You will not be able to import your data properly if you have your Cron command set up like the following:

~~wget http://www.yousiteurl.com/run.php~~

Status "Process"

Plugins status is set to ‘Process’ but taking too long to change to ‘Import Success’.

Increase memory_limit, mysql.connect_timeout and max_execution_time directives for your PHP in php.ini file.

NOTE! That should be also done by your hosting company if you don’t have server configuration experience.

Go to Settings tab and check for errors. If no errors were found, go to ow_include/config.php and enable DEBUG_MODE. After that login to your server via SSH and run the import file using this command: php /path/to/your_oxwall_folder/ow_plugins/data_importer/import.php

With the outcome details perform search on Forum and then submit a topic if no answers were found.

Overview

SkaDateX software and it's plugins generate/process a number of different emails:

verification
welcome email
user approval
forgot password
user invitation
latest activity
matchmaking
emails about winks
mass mailing
membership expiration
new messages
“miss you” emails.
emails sent to you from “contact us” form.
..etc.

All emails are divided into 2 types based on the way script works with them:

direct emails:those emails are sent regardless of Cron. Example: new users registers » verification email gets generated » email is sent right away. This type includes: verification, welcome, user approval, forgot password emails.
emails sent via Cron: those emails are sent only when Cron runs. Example: you invite a user » invitation email gets generated » email is added into “to be sent” queue » Cron runs » email is sent. This type includes all other emails that are not listed under first group.

Troubleshooting why emails are not being delivered depends on the type of the email.

Important!:When SMTP is enabled in Admin Panel » Settings » Main Settings ALL site emails are sent via Cron. Enable SMTP only if you don't have any other options left

Troubleshooting Steps

Before you proceed with further please make sure that you have specified valid ( working) email address in Admin panel » Settings » Main settings » Site email.

Important!:Troubleshooting steps are based on assumption that SMTP is disabled.

Make sure that crontab command executing SkaDateX's ow_cron/run.php file has been created on your server. Most hosting providers have special area called “Cron jobs” within their control panels. Log in to your control panel ( ex. cPanel) » open “Cron Jobs” section :

Existing Crontab commands will be listed under “Current Cron Jobs” section:

If you don't have crontab command executing SkaDateX's ow_cron/run.php, most likely that is the reason why you are not receiving Cron related emails. Make sure to create Cron command using Cron Configuration Guide .

If you have crontab command executing SkaDateX's ow_cron/run.php, make sure that the command is correct. The best way to check this, is to follow Cron configuration using SSH steps. If you don't have SSH access details or you don't know how to use SSH, you can always ask your hosting provider to give you the path to PHP.

While checking “Current Cron Jobs” section, pay attention at how often Cron is set to run: ex. once a minute, or once in 5 minutes. You will need this information later on.

Step #1: Crontab command executing ow_cron/run.php file has been created and used command is correct. What to do next?

Open your database via PhpMyAdmin » find ow_base_mail database table. This is the place where queued “to be sent” emails are stored waiting for Cron to run. Keep this table opened in one browser tab/window.
Open your Admin panel in a another tab/window. Go to Users » Browser Users » Invite one member.
Open the tab/window with ow_base_mail table. Refresh the table. Did the row/entry containing data about your latest sent invite has been generated?
- If new row appeared»everything is ok. Script has generated an email and this email is now waiting for Cron to run.
- If new row didn't appear, this means that SkaDateX didn't generate the email. This situation is not likely to happen. If you face this, please contact SkaDateX support team.
Wait until Cron runs. We recommend waiting for at least 5 minutes even if your Cron is set to run every minute.
Refresh ow_base_mail table. Was the row your saw before ( row containing data of your latest mailing) removed?
- Entry with my testing invitation email has been removed: this indicates that Cron ran successfully and your testing email has been pushed to your mail server. Once emails “leave” ow_base_mail table SkadateX software doesn't have control over what will happen with this email. Delivery is up to your mail server and recipient's mail provider only. Wait for 5 more minutes and check the email where invitation should have arrived. If you still don't receive the email please check Step 2 section of this manual.
- Entry with my testing invitation email has not been removed: this indicates that Cron didn't ran. As a result email has not not been sent. There could be several reasons why Cron didn't run.
  - contact your hosting provider and ask them to make sure that crond is up and running. If you have SSH access details you can check this yourself by running ps ax | grep crond command via SSH.
  - used cron command is incorrect. Once again make sure that correct command is used. If you have SSH access try executing your command via SSH. You should not be getting any errors.
  - when setting up Cron Jobs via control panel you can specify an email address where you will be receiving email reports each time Cron runs. Enter your email there. Wait until Cron runs. Check your email.If you receive the report, make sure that it doesn't contain any errors.
  - open ow_log folder via FTP or File manager » open cron_error.log. Does the log contain any recent errors.

If you find any errors either within the email reports or within error logs and you are not sure whaterrors mean, you can always contact SkaDateX support team.

When emails “leave” ow_base_mail table our software no longer controls them. All is up to your mail server and recipient's mail provider.

make sure that valid email has been specified in Admin panel » Settings » Main Settings.
make sure to check spam/junk folders of the email where testing invite should have arrived.
your hosting/mail server is not working/blocking/restricting you from sending emails. Try using gmail's SMTP for testing purposes. If email sent via SMTP mail provider will arrive, you will need to contact your mail/hosting provider and ask them to troubleshoot why mail sending is not working using their server.
recipient's mail provider is blocking emails from your IP address/domain. Try inviting users with different emails. If email will be delivered to one address but won't reach other mailboxes, then you will need to contact corresponding mail providers and check with them whether your IP or domain is not blacklisted. Make sure to send at least one invite to any @gmail.com address. Gmail is known to be the most loyal in terms of filtering.

I am not receiving direct emails: ex. verification email. What to do?

Important!:Troubleshooting steps are based on assumption that SMTP is disabled.

When direct email is generated it is sent to your mail server right away. Therefore delivery failure of such emails is connected to your mail/hosting server's configurations or recipient's mail provider.

Make sure that valid email address is used in Admin Panel » Settings » Main Settings » site email.
Try renaming title of the verification email. Go to Admin Panel » Settings » Languages» search by “Email verification” keywords » text key to edit “{text key='base+email_verify_subject'}” » change the title to, for example, “Approve your account” or any other text of your choice that doesn't contain “verify” and “email” keywords. Some hosting/mail providers might have filters blocking emails with certain keywords.
recipient's mail provider is blocking emails from your IP address/domain. Try registering users with different emails. If email will be delivered to one address but won't reach other mailboxes, then you will need to contact corresponding mail providers and check with them whether your IP or domain is not blacklisted. How to use Gmail SMTP for testing purposes

Go to Admin Panel » Settings » Main Settings » SMTP tab.

Fill in the form.

Enable - check the box.
Host:Port - smtp.gmail.com : 465 OR 587
Username - your gmail address.
Password - your password to gmail account.
Secure connection
If you specify port 587, select TLS.
If you specify port 465 select SSL.

Save your changes.

Once changes are saved click “Test Connection”. Make sure to receive a “success” notice after testing the connection.

A: After introducing changes to a plugin/theme, you should add a CHANGELOG.md (case sensitive) file to the plugin/theme folder. The file should include version name {$version-name} and build number {$version-number} of the plugin, followed by the list of introduced changes, in the following format:

How to add external custom pages to Oxwall.

You can add custom pages via Pages&Menus within the administration panel. Added pages are displayed within your site's general design/layout ( footer, header, sidebard and etc.)

In case you would like to have fully customized page with 100% own custom content ( your own footer, header, sidebar, background and etc.), you can use external custom pages.

Requirements: text editor, FTP client or access to control panel.

Create .html document with the content of your choice. For example, I have created .html document called “custom_page.html”.
Upload the document to the directory where Oxwall is installed via FTP or control panel.
Go to Oxwall's Admin Panel> Pages&Menus> Pages&Menus. Add a new page linking to External URL. Since my custom page is called “custom_page.html”, my URL will be http://mysitename.com/custom_page.html“. Once the page is added new menu item will appear on the front end of your site.
Open .htaccess file located in the folder/directory where your Oxwall is installed. Use FTP client or control panel to access this place.
Add following rewrite condition right before RewriteRule (.*) index.php line.

  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/custom_page\.html

Make sure to replace custom_page with the name of your own custom page. This rewrite condition tells the system not to block your new page. If you don't add this condition, you will get “Page Not Found” error if you try to access it.

Save the changes done in .htaccess file. Go to your homepage and try opening your new page.

Q: How to upgrade/add plugins and themes without using main cPanel username and password?

Every time you update/add plugins and themes Oxwall asks you to enter FTP attributes: host name, control panel username and password. In case you don't want to give out this information you can set separate FTP accounts with access to only needed data on your server.

Requirements: access to your control panel, access to admin panel.

Important!!!: Make sure that your FTP domain (ftp.yourdomain.com) is valid. OR use localhost instead

If Oxwall is installed under your main domain name:

1. Log in to your control panel>FTP Accounts.

2. Create new FTP account.

Make sure the directory option in the ftp form shows “public_html”. The default value will show as “public_html/{$login_name}”. Remove the name ( highlighted in red on screen shot) so that it is just “public_html”.

3. Done. Next time when Oxwall asks you for FTP attributes use:

Host name: “ftp.yourmaindomainname.com” OR “localhost”
Username: created_login_name@yourdomain.com ( ex: oxftpmain@mymaindomainname.com)
Password: created password
Port: 21

If Oxwall is installed under sub/addon domain name or subfolder:

1. Log in to your control panel>FTP Accounts.

2. Create new FTP account.

The name will default to be your main domain so you can name it, for example, oxftpsub@your_main_domain.com.

Make sure to change directory option in ftp form. The default value will show “/public_html/{$login_name}”). Change it to: “/public_html/your_sub_or_addon_dir_name .

For example: my Oxwall site is installed under www.mymaindomainname.com/oxwall153, therefore when creating new FTP account I will use ”/public_html/oxwall153“ instead of default value.

Do not remove or change any slashes at all, just change the location from the default to your sub or add on domain (if there is a trailing slash in the default then leave it).

3. Done. Next time when Oxwall asks you for FTP attributes use:

Host name: “ftp.yourmaindomainname.com” OR “localhost”
Username: created_login_name@yourdomain.com ( ex: oxftpmain@mymaindomainname.com)
Password: created password
Port: 21

How to create a new page/menu item?

To create a new page, go to Admin Area > Pages > Manage Pages.

The Manage Pages page is visually divided into three sections:

Main Menu ¹⁾
Bottom Menu ²⁾
Hidden Pages ³⁾

Choose the menu where you want to add the new page/button, and click Add Item.

The Add a new item page will appear.

1. Enter the button/page name into the Menu name field
2. Choose the Page Address

There are two types of the custom pages:

Local page - choose to create a new page with your own custom content

If you choose the Local page option:
Enter your new page meta tags ⁴⁾
Enter your new page content

External URL - choose to add a button redirecting to an external site.

3. Enter your page title
4. Select the type of users who can see this page in the Visible For field
5. Click Submit.

The system will redirect you back to the Manage Pages page.

Note: The menu buttons on this page are colored. You can find the values for the colors in the Legend section.

To edit the menu item hover the mouse cursor over the item and click the Edit button.

Enter the new name to the Menu Name field, change the permissions for guests, users and click the Save button.

How to delete the page?

To delete the page hover the mouse cursor over the item and click the Edit button.

The click the Delete button at the bottom of the page.

How to move the items?

The page where user lands after logging in can be set in Admin area > Pages > Manage Pages section.

The menu item located first within the list is the one where people will be redirected after logging in. By default the Dashboard page is the first page.

So if users should land on the Search page, simply drag and drop the Search menu item to the first place.

If the Join page should open first instead of the Index page, move the Join item to the first position.

If you want to hide a page without deleting it, move the item to the Hidden pages area.

Q: How to get my theme to the featured list?

A: In short, there's no recipe. Featured themes are selected by Oxwall Store editors on their sole discretion. Our main goal is to show the best themes to the community first, but of course this “best” thing is pretty subjective.

When selecting a theme to be featured, we try not to pay attention to its price. But we come from the open source world, so admittedly we have a little bias against pricy items. But again, quality is first, of course.

The only recommendation we have for you is to make your work stand out by its quality. There's really no other way to be featured on the front page of the Oxwall Store.

Backup

First you should create a backup of your database and code files. If you have Cpanel installed on your server, you can easily do that via Backups or Backup Wizard section. If you don't have Cpanel installed on your server, you should download all code files via FTP.
To create a database backup you should access your database via phpMyAdmin. Select the database you want to create a backup of and go to Export section. Click 'Go' and that would download your database backup in SQL format.

Creating database

On a new server you should create a database. For your convenience use the same database name and user you had on your old server.
Once database is created, access it via phpMyAdmin and navigate to the Import section. Select the database backup file you previously created in SQL format and click 'Go'. That would paste all data from your old database to the new one.

Uploading files

Upload all files from the old server to the new one either via FTP or create an archive with all your data and upload it via Cpanel File Manager. First option would require more time and good Internet connection.
Check your ow_includes/config.php file to make sure all information there is valid:

Q: I don't see auto update request in my admin panel

A: If you don't see auto update request (as a green balloon) in your admin panel after a new version of platform release, you should check the following:

Your cron job should be setup right. Here is a Cron installation manual. Please, check it out.
Maybe you have disabled url_fopen in your php.ini settings. Contact your hosting company about this or fix it by yourself.
System hadn't checked for new updates yet. Cron script checks oxwall.org for new updates every 24 hours. So, please, be patient, and you will see a new update request in a few hours.

A: Oxwall script checks our storage server for updates once a day. If you know there is a plugin update but your site Admin Panel doesn't show you any information about an update available, that means script has not checked our server for the update yet. Within 24 hours you will see the update notification in your Admin Panel.

Troubleshooting "Parse Error"

Parse errors happen when the code doesn't conform to the syntax or language rules for the language in which you're script is working. In Oxwall, parse error is known to be caused by third party plugins and custom code added to Custom HTML widgets.

Firebug

This documentation uses Firebug as a debug tool. Alternatively you can use native debugger that comes with Google Chrome. Parse error discussed in this documentation appears when user signs in.

Troubleshooting steps:

Open the page where parse error happens in Firefox. In this case sign in.
Enable Firebug.Choose Console >All in Firebug's panel:

Reproduce parse error message. In this case sign in as any user.
Once parse error is reproduced, find parse error entry in Firebug's error log. Parse error is always preceded by certain action that caused it. In this case this action is POST…/base/ajax-sign-in

Open details of this POST using + sign next to it. Navigate to Response section. Here you will see response script received from your server. It will contain the error message that caused parse error.If you are not sure what errors mean, contact Oxwall support team for assistance. In this case “Groups” plugin caused the parse error since GROUPS_BOL_SERVICE - is the method that belongs to this plugin.

Note:Firebug might not show the actual error message within the Response section if error_reporting is disabled on your server.

SQLSTATE errors indicate that something is wrong in the way script communicates with your database. This document lists most common SQLSTATE errors reported by Oxwall community members and ways to deal with them.

Message: SQLSTATE[42000] General error: 126

 Message: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 126 Incorrect key file for table '/var/tmp/#sql_3ce9c_0.MYI'; try to repair it

Reported to happen when: varies
Status: Server configuration. Not a bug.
Caused by: /tmp folder running out of space on client's server.

Reported to happen during: installation, core update, plugin updates.
Status: Varies.
Caused by:
- * server side issue.
- * corrupted plugin/core archives
- * upload was not finished completely/successfully
- * mismatching versions of core and plugins.
Solution:
- * contact hosting company to find out whether they had any downtimes on their end
- * reinstall or run update again
- * contact plugin developer
- * check whether your server meets our requirements
- * make sure that all of your plugins are up to date.

Reported to happen when: sending mass mailing.
Status: Server configuration. Not a bug.
Caused by: the length of the request exceeding the MySQL limit of max_allowed_packet. The limit is set to1M by default.

Human readable explanation of the error message: phpMailer library tried to send a message using the php mail() function and the php mail() function returned “false” result.

Two most common causes of this error message are:

Server settings
Phpmailer library used within Oxwall.

Checking Server Settings

Since mail functions are part of the PHP's core, first of all make sure that PHP was configured/compiled correctly on your server to send emails. Run following test to check this:

Create a file called testing_mail.php in /public_html/ directory on your server. Add one of the following codes into this file:

Where

any_sender_email@example.com - your sender's email
-fany_sender_email@example.com - same sender's email but with “-f” at the begining.
recepient@example.com - your recipient's email.

Make sure to replace those values by existing email addresses.

Run created file by opening www.yoursitename.com/testing_mail.php in any browser. You should see blank page.

In case if Oxwall itself is installed in /public_html/ directory, you will see “Page Not Found” message. This happens because Oxwall's .htaccess is blocking this page. Add following line into Oxwall's .htaccess right before “RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/index\.php” to solve this issue:

 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/testing_mail\.php

Open www.yoursitename.com/testing_mail.php again. You should now see a blank page. Check the email you have set for “recepient@example.com”.

If you don't receive testing email, contact your hosting provider and check:

whether phpmailer library is installed/enabled/configured on your server.
whether php mail() function is installed/enabled/configured on your server.

If you receive testing email, php mail script is working on your server. In this case, “Could not instantiate mail function” is most likely to be caused by php mailer libraries used in Oxwall itself.

Phpmailer libraries used within Oxwall

If you have tried all the steps listed above and are still getting “Could not Instantiate Mail Function” then phpmailer libraries used in Oxwall might not be compatible with your server's configuration.

Open ow_libraries/php_mailer/class.phpmailer.php and find line #571:

 $params = sprintf("-oi -f %s", $this->Sender);

Replace this code by:

 $params = null; //sprintf("-oi -f %s", $this->Sender);

Once changes are made try to reproduce “Message: Could not instantiate mail function” error. For example, try to reset your password.

If you don't see error message and receive the email, then leave the fix you have just applied.

Explanation of the fix: Most of the servers accept “sprintf(”-oi -f %s“, $this→Sender ” parameter. In your case, your server rejected it and returned “false” result. To solve this Oxwall needs to update phpmailer libraries used within the script. This will be done in one of the upcoming builds. Until then, leave the fix you have just applied and wait for the new update.

A: When you submit a plugin or theme to the Oxwall Store, it first needs to be reviewed by our moderation team. They check plugins and themes for reliability, sustainability and make sure they meet review guidelines. So, if your plugin or theme gets suspended, it means that there was a problem with your product. At the same moment your product gets suspended (you can see it at Oxwall Store→My Items where all your plugins and themes are listed), you will receive an email with detailed description of the problem which prevents your product from being approved.
